The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) is a sanctioned affiliate of USA Hockey whose purpose is to develop and encourage sportsmanship between all players for the betterment of their physical and social well-being. The association supervises the activities of thousands of amateur hockey teams, and tens of thousands of players, using a volunteer workforce of elected and appointed officials. MAHA supervises the activities of over 2,500 amateur hockey teams, and 50,000 players and coaches using a volunteer workforce of elected and appointed officials. MAHA administers amateur hockey in Michigan through seven established districts. Each District is responsible for the local teams and Associations in their area.
Livonia Hockey Association is in District 4.
If your team is participating in Districts or State Tournament, all team registration documents, plus all game and tournament score sheets will need to be presented to MAHA during the District Credentials Review process.
All Livonia teams 10U and older participate in the Little Caesar's Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL).
All teams and players must be rostered with USA Hockey prior to participation in exhibition or league games. Once all of your roster criteria are met, the office shall submit the roster to USA Hockey, which includes the players, coaches and manager of each team. The office will send a link to your roster after the process is completed. Team roster deadlines will vary from year to year.
Before teams are rostered, each player, coach, manager and locker room volunteer must complete their USA Hockey registration.
All Coaches, Managers, and Locker Room Monitors must complete additional requirements as noted throughout this page before the team is fully rostered.
Teams must submit the names and USA Hockey #s for their head coach, assistant coaches and manager(s) to the office.
The office will track all coaching CEP, age-specific modules, Safesport and background checks and advise coaches and managers what is missing. You can proactively search for the level you need to complete on the USA Hockey website.
The U.S. Center for SafeSport delivers tools to help sport organizations across the country champion respect and diversity on and off the field. The program seeks to prevent and respond to emotional, physical and sexual abuse through education.
This training is comprised of short video segments that take approximately 90 minutes to complete. The training session may be paused and completed at your convenience.
Safesport must be completed by Head Coach, Assistant coaches, team Manager(s) and all locker room parents.
Safesport training is valid for two seasons, so if you took the training last year, it is valid through this season as well. There is no cost.

All homes games require at least one non-coach volunteer from the home team to run the clock and complete the score sheet. Playing music during games is encouraged but only recommended if there are two volunteers in the box. Click on the links below for more time clock assistance.
Home teams are responsible for scheduling referees and paying their fees. Keep in mind that rates will vary year to year and by company. Please check with individual schedulers to confirm rates.
Below are referee providers that the LHA has found to be reliable, experienced, and affordable.
Team Financials are due to the LCA Office no later than the 15th of each month. The LCA Office will email copies of your bank statement about a week prior to the due date but you can access your bank statement online to prepare your financials ahead of time. Once completed, the financial sheet must be signed by both the manager and coach, and you must attach a copy of your bank statement. They can be emailed, dropped off to the LCA office or placed in the drop box. Remember, they must be distributed to parents every month, either electronically or hard copy. You can even post them on your team website.
The LCA office must be notified of any reductions to the amount of your team’s monthly ice bill due to fundraising activities, sponsorships, etc.
For house teams, families do not pay an ice bill in March, so only budget with funds collected through the February 15th ice bill. In addition, March Financials will close out your team account, leaving a $5.00 balance. Those are due April 15th, after the season is over.
Travel teams should bring their accounts back to $5 after the spring season is complete (due June 15th), unless your roster is the same as the prior season. This will ensure that any families leaving the team will receive their reimbursement and any coaches moving up or leaving will have reconciled it for the incoming coach.
Ultimately, you are responsible for monitoring your bank accounts to be sure of what is coming in and going out. Be diligent about tracking expenses, and your outstanding withdrawals should be noted on your financials. The document below includes everything you need to track your teams monthly and season expenditures for ease of use: Checkbook register, Financial statements for each month Sept thru May, Sponsorship tracker, Fundraising Statement and a game/referee log to track ref fees.
Teams are encouraged to seek out community sponsors to build relations outside the LHA to defray ice or team tournament costs. Travel teams sponsor maximum is $7,000. House team maximum is $5,000 . Sponsor minimum contribution is $50 and they are recognized as follows:
All sponsorship funds must be submitted to the LCA Office with the LHA Sponsorship form (below). Once the sponsor’s check clears, the LHA will issue a check to your team, which you deposit into your account.
Out of town tournaments and any expenses over $400 must be voted on by the team. A 2/3 majority is needed to pass. A non-vote counts as a "no" and all team ballots must be in writing and submitted to the LCA office once completed. Below is a generic team ballot covering a variety of items, you can modify it to fit your team's needs.
All fundraising activities should be included in the team vote. Each team is allowed up to 4 fundraisers before February 1st (Red Bird Raffle and Goal Can excluded from this count). Teams who are bound for States and Nationals may petition to hold a n additional fundraiser late in the season. All funds raised apply to the team as a whole regardless of participation. An informal email must be submitted to the LHA Fundraising Committee prior to initiation of any fundraising activity (sample below) and you must submit a Fundraising statement (below) with your monthly financials for the month in which your fundraiser took place.
Tournaments costing over $400 and all out of town tournaments must be voted on as a team with a 2/3 majority to pass. Below you will find links to several tournament search websites and popular area tournaments.
